Borderlands 4 Price Set at $70 After Controversial Comment
Borderlands 4 will launch on September 12 with a starting price of $70, officially debunking earlier concerns that the game could cost as much as $80. The speculation began after a tweet from Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford, who implied that a higher price might be justified — and that “real fans” would pay it regardless.

Fan Reaction and Gearbox Clarification
The tweet quickly drew backlash from fans and gaming media, especially in light of rising AAA game prices. Pitchford later said in a panel at PAX East that Borderlands 4 has more than double the development budget of its predecessor, but he stopped short of confirming pricing details.
With the release of pre-order info, Gearbox has now confirmed the Standard Edition will retail at $70, aligning it with most current-gen releases.
Edition Details and Pre-Order Bonuses
Borderlands 4 will be available in three editions:
- Standard Edition ($70): Base game plus bonus weapon, drone, and Vault Hunter skins for pre-orders.
- Deluxe Edition ($100): Adds a Bounty Pack Bundle and exclusive cosmetic items.
- Super Deluxe Edition ($130): Includes all above content plus two DLC story packs and new playable characters.
