About PixlRun
PixlRun is an independent technology publication. We test the gear we recommend, score it on a calibrated rubric, and publish the verdict — even when it’s the unflattering one.
What we cover
Three beats: AI tools (model leaderboards, productivity stacks, real-world workflows), games (release tracking, browser-arcade curation, lab benchmarks), and gadgets (phones, laptops, headphones, GPUs, cameras, smartwatches, tablets, TVs). One adjacent beat: app swaps — cheaper or more private alternatives to the apps you’re already paying for.
We don’t review enterprise SaaS. We don’t cover crypto. We don’t run sponsored posts.
Methodology
Every gadget review goes through a 14-day minimum test cycle. We track 38 metrics per unit across six pillars: real-world performance, build quality, ergonomics, longevity signals, ecosystem fit, and price-to-spec ratio. The 100-point score is calibrated against a reference unit in each category — not graded on a curve, not inflated to keep manufacturers happy.
For AI tools we run identical prompts across competitors, measure latency and output quality, and update the leaderboard monthly as models ship. Game reviews get a minimum of 25 hours of play time before a score posts; “first impressions” pieces are clearly labeled as such.
If a unit is loaned to us by the manufacturer, the review states it. If we bought it ourselves, that’s stated too. We return loaners within 30 days of publication. We do not accept gifts from PR.
Editorial independence
No advertiser, affiliate partner, or sponsor sees a review before publication. Comp tickets, embargoed previews, and press loans don’t change the score. We’ve published bad reviews of products from companies that buy display ads on our site, and we’ll keep doing that.
Display advertising is served via programmatic networks (Ezoic). Affiliate links use rel="sponsored" and earn us a small commission when you buy through them — that commission is the same regardless of vendor, so it doesn’t influence which products we recommend. Full affiliate disclosure.
Where we are
Editorial operates from Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. We don’t have a US or EU office. The site is hosted on commercial infrastructure in North America with a global CDN.
Corrections
We make mistakes. When we do, we correct the article inline with a dated Correction note, never silently. Material factual errors get a public correction at the bottom of the affected piece. Email the editorial team if you spot one.
