The XPS 16 (2026) is Dell’s clean answer to “if you must run Windows on Apple-tier hardware.” Intel Core Ultra 9 285HX, RTX 5070 Ti mobile, 64GB DDR5 — and a build quality that finally doesn’t make MacBook owners uncomfortable.

What got fixed

The 2024 XPS 16’s worst problem was thermal throttling under sustained load. The 2026 redesign adds a proper vapor chamber and dual 3-pin fans. Cinebench R24 30-minute loop: 8% throttling (was 26% on the 2024). Premiere Pro 4K H.265 export: 23% faster than M4 Max in our test (the GPU is the difference). Sustained gaming at 1600p maxed: 95 fps in our test set.

Display and build

16.3-inch OLED with 4K resolution at 120Hz, 600 nits HDR, Dolby Vision certified. Color-accurate out of the box (Delta E < 2 across sRGB and P3). The chassis is CNC-machined aluminum with Gorilla Glass 6 above the keyboard — feels closer to a Surface Studio than the plasticky-feeling XPS of past years.

Battery, the asterisk

99.5Wh battery (the largest the FAA permits on a plane). We got 9 hours mixed productivity — better than the 2024 (6 hours) but well short of M4 Max (17 hours). Discrete GPU + x86 efficiency tax. Plug in for travel.

What you give up

$3,299 base — premium pricing without Apple’s silicon advantage. Windows 11 24H2’s AI features are still uneven. Webcam is improved but soft compared to MacBook 1080p. Speakers are louder than MacBook but less detailed.

Bottom line: If you need a Windows laptop that’s Pro-tier and cares about build quality, this is the obvious pick. If you can use Mac, you should — battery and software polish gap is real.
