Crunchyroll’s app for the Nintendo Switch stops working on October 30, 2026. Nintendo’s support page states that service for Crunchyroll on Nintendo Switch will be discontinued on that date, and that the app can be used until then. Nintendo Life reports that the app has already been removed from the eShop, and that Crunchyroll did not give a reason. The app launched in February 2022, so it ran for a little over four years.
The same Nintendo page says the app is not compatible with the Switch 2: it can only be used on the original Switch. Complex adds that no Switch 2 version has been announced. In practice, the shutdown applies to Switch owners, and the newer console is not offered as a replacement route at the moment.
Your account is not affected. Per Nintendo Life, Crunchyroll says the same subscription continues on crunchyroll.com, the Crunchyroll mobile app and more than 30 other global and regional platforms and devices. Because you sign in to the Switch app with your Crunchyroll email and password, as the Nintendo support page describes, the login you already have is the one you will use elsewhere. None of the sources spell out what happens to a watchlist or viewing history, and Crunchyroll has not published a statement on it. Since the Switch app was only a client for the same account, it is reasonable to expect them to be there when you sign in on another device, but check after your first login rather than assuming.
What you lose is the Switch itself as a viewing screen. The app supported TV, tabletop and handheld play, and, according to Nintendo’s support page, offline viewing for Mega Fan and Ultimate Fan subscribers. Episodes downloaded to a Switch will not be a lasting option after the cutoff. The mobile app is the closest replacement for handheld, offline watching; Nintendo Life notes the Switch offline feature matched the mobile experience. Whether downloads made on the Switch can be moved is not addressed in the published coverage, so it is safer to assume they cannot.
On cost, nothing changes simply because you switch devices. Crunchyroll raised its US monthly prices for billing dates after March 4, 2026. Final Weapon lists Fan at $9.99, Mega Fan at $13.99 and Ultimate Fan at $17.99 per month, up from $7.99, $11.99 and $15.99. The same report describes a limited-time Fan annual plan at $66.99 per year; whether it is still offered is not confirmed. These figures come from news coverage rather than Crunchyroll’s own pricing page, so check the current price before you commit.
The tiers matter for one reason here. Final Weapon lists offline HD viewing under Mega Fan, and the Nintendo page says offline viewing on Switch needed Mega Fan or higher. If handheld offline watching was the reason you used the Switch app, the mobile app on a phone or tablet is where that feature continues, on the same tier you already pay for. Final Weapon also lists one-device downloads under Fan, so the tier-by-tier download rules are worth checking in the app itself.
Practical steps are short. Before October 30, make sure you know your Crunchyroll email and password, since the Switch app used them directly. Install the mobile app or open the website, sign in, and confirm that your queue and history appear. If you watch on a television, Crunchyroll’s statement points to more than 30 supported platforms, which in many households will include a streaming device, smart TV or other console already in the room. Crunchyroll’s help center keeps the device list, so confirm a specific TV or console there before relying on it.
The trade-offs are plain. This is not a move to a different service, so the library, subscription and price stay the same. What changes is hardware: you lose a console with a good handheld screen, and you gain nothing in return if you do not already own a phone, tablet, or streaming device that works. Players who only had a Switch for anime will need a different screen. And because the Switch 2 is excluded, upgrading consoles does not solve the problem.
Prices were read off the vendors' own pricing pages by hand and last checked Oct 7, 2026. Vendors move them without notice, so check before you commit.
