Warner Bros. Discovery is closing the standalone discovery+ app and website in India on 3 November 2026. The service stopped taking new subscriptions on 3 September. Monthly plans stopped auto-renewing on 3 October. The company says the discovery+ library will stay available in India through distribution partners instead.
Monthly subscribers keep access until the end of their current billing period, then the plan ends. Annual subscribers whose period ends between 3 October and 3 November keep access until it expires and are not renewed. Annual subscribers whose plans run past 3 November receive a pro-rated refund for the unused portion after the closure. The coverage reviewed gave no refund amounts, no timeline for payment, and did not say whether monthly subscribers are refunded, so check the email or in-app notice from discovery+ for your own case.
The partner platforms named are Amazon Prime Video Channels, Jio TV+, Jio TV, Tata Play Binge, Dish TV VZY and Playbox TV. Prime Video Channels is therefore one of six, not the single destination. Warner Bros. Discovery has not said how individual shows and films will be packaged or positioned across these services, and the reports do not say what the content will cost on Prime Video Channels. If you already use one of the other platforms, such as a Tata Play or Jio subscription, compare it before adding another.
Prime Video Channels launched in India in September 2021 as optional add-ons for Prime members. Each channel is sold as its own annual subscription, so you pay only for the services you choose. Channel content plays inside the Prime Video app and on its website, with no separate app to switch to. Supported devices listed at launch include smart TVs, mobile devices, Fire TV and Fire TV Stick, Fire tablets and Apple TV. All channel subscriptions are managed in one place, which means one login and one billing relationship rather than one per service.
On price, the only figure found is from that 2021 launch, when discovery+ was listed at INR 299 per year for Prime members, a 25 percent discount. That is a historical figure, in Indian rupees, and should not be read as the current price. Amazon’s current channel pages and the Prime Video app are the place to confirm what any channel costs today and whether discovery+ programming sits in a dedicated channel at all.
The gain is convenience: if you already pay for Prime, adding channels keeps everything in one app and one bill. The cost is dependency. You need the base Prime membership, the add-on is billed separately, and the catalogue you land on may differ from the full discovery+ library you had. The coverage does not describe which titles will move, so it is worth checking for the specific shows you watch before paying.
Prices were read off the vendors' own pricing pages by hand and last checked Oct 20, 2026. Vendors move them without notice, so check before you commit.
