Notion stores your data on its servers and pushes Notion AI at $96/year on top of the base subscription. Logseq is local-first, markdown on disk, and built around outlines and a daily journal rather than databases.
If you don’t already think in outlines, the learning curve is real. Notion-style databases and shared workspaces don’t exist; collaboration is awkward. Mobile sync is fine but slower than Notion. The plugin ecosystem is solid but smaller than Obsidian’s.
Logseq is free. Logseq Sync is $5/month if you want their hosted sync, or use Git or iCloud free. Notion Plus is $96/year per user, plus $96/year for Notion AI.
Researchers, students, and anyone who keeps a daily journal and likes outliners. If your team relies on Notion’s shared databases for project tracking, Logseq isn’t a one-to-one swap.
